Performing at the Doo Wop Show on Valentine’s Day
Feb 16th, 2009 by deedee

On February 14th, Michael and I sang as Dick and Dee Dee at the Doo Wop Show at the Orange County Performing Arts Center in Costa Mesa. It was a fabulous show, with many great acts and a very receptive audience. We were fortunate to have Barry Fazman, our musical director, with us. He worked with Glen Raby and the Blue Suede Orchestra to get the classic Dick and Dee Dee sound.
The sound system was state of the art. What a joy to be able to hear yourself back so clearly, so you can make adjustments with your vocal volumn.
I was happy to see Kathy Young and talked to her at length about our touring days “back in the day.” She was on the first tour Dick and I ever went on when she was sixteen and I was eighteen. Who knew that so many years later we would be re-united on a stage. When I saw her sing “A Thousand Stars” at the rehearsal I had a flash back to the Texas tour and watching her sing it each night. I could even visualize the dress she wore.
I’m trying to post a photo to go with this blog entry, but haven’t been able to do so yet. It’s uploaded, but only in the Uncategorized area. Alas, the skills we need to keep current with today’s technology. I’m sure I’ll figure this out soon.
Sounds like a good time was had by all, even the performers! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…..I wish I could have been there. I see the tour is about to go on and the closest (so far) to me would be Chicago on May 9th. If there is any chance of the tour coming to Minneapolis, you can bet I’ll be there!
Hi! I just bought 7 tickets to the upcoming Chicago Doo Wop show–May 9th as a surprise for my Mom for Mother’s day! (And for my 30th birthday which is May 10th!) She raised me on all of the music of the Doo Wop era and I am so excited to surprise her with tickets to come see you all. She has watched the PBS Doo Wop shows and always calls me when they are on TV so now I have to keep this a secret until May. Thank you for still performing and helping keep this music alive! It will be a great weekend!
Hello Elizabeth,
You and your mom will not be disappointed. I made the trip from Florida To the Cosa Mesa Ca show and had a fabulous time. What was extra nice was being able to talk with Dee Dee and Michael after the show. Have a great time.
